The Transition Jacket has always been one of Tourmaster’s flagship jackets, and with previous versions working as a foundation, the Transition Series 5 (the latest iteration released fall of 2017) delivers more refinement and better performance while maintaining an affordable price point. As a whole, the jacket is still 3 to 4-season capable, it still has both waterproof and thermal liners, it’s still the adventure-oriented three-quarter length, and it still has a high-denier outer shell for excellent durability—all features that have made the Transition series so popular.

What’s new is the styling and venting. Styling has been reworked to give the jacket a sleeker, more sophisticated look. So while the Transition 5 is more capable, it won’t have the overly technical appearance as previous versions—making the Transition 5 better for everyday city riding and commuting where you don’t want to look like you just rode in from the wilderness. Venting—arguably the jacket’s weakest point—got reworked and now has 11 vents spread over the jacket, including direct venting on the shoulders and biceps that bypass the waterproof liner and help the jacket cope with the especially hot summer months.

Tourmaster also included several small details that make a big impact on the rider and differentiate the Transition 5 from other jackets of the same price. Microfiber material is on the cuffs and collar to prevent irritation, accordion panels are at all the large movement points for full range of motion, and even the exterior front cargo pockets are waterproof. With the list of features continuing even further, the Transition 5 Jacket from Tourmaster is a solid step forward and a heavy hitter amongst the budget-conscious jackets available.

• Shell constructed using highly abrasion resistant 600 denier Carbolex® polyester fabric, 1680 denier ballistic polyester in the elbows.
